Why will you love this recipe?
- Protein-packed: A 1-cup serving contains about 25 g of protein.
- The mix of fruits adds extra flavor and nutrition to every bite. Whether peaches, strawberries, or pineapple, they all bring a unique taste to our cottage cheese.
- Easy and quick to make: It only takes minutes to prepare.
- Versatile: You can have it for breakfast, a snack, or dessert. It goes well with granola, salads, pancakes, and smoothie bowls.
Recipe ingredients
- Cottage cheese: I prefer the full-fat variety, but low-fat is also fine. It is a fresh cheese made from curds of cow's milk. It has a mild, slightly tangy flavor and a creamy, crumbly texture.
- It's a good source of protein and calcium, making it a popular choice for those looking to add protein to their diet.
- Berries: Blueberries and raspberries are both rich in antioxidants, vitamins, and fiber, making them a nutritious addition to dishes.
- Fruit: Red and yellow plums
- Honey: Make the cottage cheese and fruit cups as sweet as you like.
Substitutions
You can substitute the blueberries, raspberries, and plums with any other berries or fruit thatโs in season.
- Spring seasonal fruits: Strawberries, rhubarb, cherries, apricots, pineapples, kiwi, mangoes, and grapefruit.
- Summer seasonal fruits: Berries, cherries, peaches, nectarines, plums, watermelon, cantaloupe, apricots, mangoes, and grapes.
- Autumn seasonal fruits: Apples, pears, grapes, persimmons, figs, plums, kiwi, and Asian pears.
- Winter seasonal fruits: Oranges, grapefruits, clementines, tangerines, pomegranates, kiwi, persimmons, apples, and pears.
Substitute honey with any other sweetener, such as maple syrup, agave nectar, white or brown sugar, xylitol, erythritol, stevia, etc.
Additional toppings
- Nuts and seeds: Chopped and preferably roasted, such as almonds, walnuts, pecans, sunflower, pumpkin, or sesame seeds.
- Spices: Cinnamon, cardamom, allspice, nutmeg, pumpkin pie, apple pie or carrot cake spice.
- Cocoa nibs
- Chocolate chips
- Granola (preferably unsweetened to keep things healthy)
How to make cottage cheese with fruit?
- Blend the cottage cheese in a food processor until perfectly smooth and creamy (See Expert Tips).
- Mix it with honey to taste.
- Transfer it to bowls.
- Top with fruit.
Expert Tips
- Cheese: While you could make the recipe with plain, still curdy cottage cheese, I strongly recommend blending it. Process a larger batch; it keeps in the fridge for 5 to 7 days, and you can enjoy a bowl of this delicious breakfast every morning.
- You could also use the blended cheese for other recipes, making dips and desserts and adding it to pasta dishes or casseroles.
- Fruit: Use ripe and seasonal fruit; it has the best flavor. And vary your fruit selection as often as possible to keep things interesting.

How to store?
- Freshness: If you're using fresh, ripe fruit, the cottage cheese with fruit should stay fresh for about 2-3 days in the refrigerator.
