Ingredients

Mayonnaise:

  • cup mayonnaise
  • 1 small garlic clove grated
  • ½ teaspoon Dijon mustard
  • dash of Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon freshly squeezed lemon juice more to taste
  • 1 tablespoon parsley chopped
  • pinch of cayenne pepper to taste
  • pinch of fine sea salt to taste
  • pinch of black ground pepper to taste

Sandwich:

  • 4 large slices of bread Note 1
  • 1 tablespoon sweet chili sauce more to taste
  • 6 oz turkey breast thinly sliced (Note 2)
  • 1 small avocado
  • 1 tablespoon freshly squeezed lemon juice
  • 2 slices cheese Note 3
  • 1 to mato
  • 2 lettuce leaves
  • sprinkle of fine sea salt
  • sprinkle of black pepper

Instructions

Mayonnaise:

  • Mix the mayonnaise with grated garlic, lemon juice, mustard, cayenne and black pepper, Worcestershire sauce, and chopped parsley. Set aside.

Sandwich:

  • Toast the bread in the toaster. If using a French baguette, don’t toast it.
  • Place the bread on a cutting board.
  • Spread the mayo on one slice and the chili sauce on the other.
  • Cover one slice with several slices of thin deli turkey or one or two slices of leftover turkey (depending on thickness).
  • Place the cheese on top.
  • Slice the avocado and toss it carefully with lemon juice (Note 4). Place on top of the cheese and sprinkle lightly with salt and pepper.
  • Arrange the tomato slices on top. Sprinkle lightly with salt and pepper as well.
  • Add the lettuce leaf.
  • Cover with the second slice of bread.

Notes

  1. Use sturdy, good-quality bread, like sourdough, seeded rye, artisan bread, or crusty French baguette. Don’t use bread that is too soft or too sweet.
  2. Deli turkey or leftover turkey breast.
  3. Gouda, Cheddar, Provolone, or whatever sort you like.
  4. You can mash the avocado with salt, pepper, and lemon juice. This way the sandwich will be easier to transport.
